General Information : FAQ
For the 2015 season we have made a few changes. This year our flag division will not be part of the BBYFCL. Rather they will play their games against each other. This has allowed us more flexibility with the schedule but more importantly allows the game to be more of a teaching moment rather than that focused on competition. We have also allowed third graders for the first time to play an additional year of flag football at their parents discretion. This should allow for higher participation and at minimal gives some of those kids at least one more year of football.
What is a coach?
A coach is someone that is there to teach the game of football to our student athletes while at the same time instilling those ideals that I believe is important to all of us: great sportsmanship, hard work, respect, and discipline. It is important to remember that when being a coach it is not just about being there for game time. We have other responsibilities that must be shared to ensure the success of the league. All events should have participants from each team to share the work load.
What events?
Prep & Clean up of game day flag fields, Tackle football concession duties(ensure your designated parents are there), Set up/Closure of concession stand, Field clean up after last game (all trash cans needs emptied and grounds need cleared of any debris), Fundraisers (Chicken BBQ, Hoagie distribution, etc.), Equipment Collection, Rodeo (equipment distribution as well as many administrative activities), and many more.
Fundraisers
Participation in fund raisers is required. Either must sell the minimum amount or do the buy out. If we cannot complete these then the registration fee will be raised so no fundraisers need to be managed. From my side this would be much easier. Failure to complete the fundraiser will be a reduction in a game for your student athlete. The deadlines are in place and must be met because we have to place the orders and as all other we have jobs and lives also and have limited time to
Flag Football?
Cost to play is $20.00. A shirt will be given to each player color determined by what team they have been placed on. The t-shirt will be their jersey. Games will be held on Saturdays. Location and times are to be determined but there is no travel this year. This is our first year with this format so please be patient. Parents can opt to purchase cleats for their child(ren) but please remember they practice but once or twice a week with around six games. This may be an expense that can be avoided. Also if they have baseball or soccer cleats (as long as not metal) they would work fine. There are NO concessions in flag football.
Tackle Football?
Cost to play is $50.00. There is a $25.00 opt out fee if you do NOT want to do concessions. See below for additional details. We will provide the players with all of the required equipment with the exception of cleats. Practices will start mid August. Mandatory 8 hours conditioning first week. See below. Games are played on Saturdays among teams in the BBYFCL. There will be 6 games scheduled over a 7 week period. For those that choose we may provide one additional game at the end. See Below Dragon-Bison Classic.
Concession Stand?
The opt out fee is $25.00 and must be paid prior to the beginning of the season. Once teams have been selected the coach of your team will provide you with the schedule. You will either be assigned the concession stand before or after the game your child plays in. There have been issues in the past with parents NOT showing up for their assigned duty. This year if a parent does not show up when assigned, their child will not be allowed to participate in the following game. If this occurs after the final game has been played the one game suspension will carry forward to the next year. The concession duty is to be covered by the parents, not a sibling. NO CHILDREN ARE PERMITTED IN THE CONCESSION STAND AT ANY TIME. If you are assigned the first concession stand duty of the day you should show up at least 30 minutes prior to game one kick off time to help with the start up. The final concession stand staff needs to ensure that it is properly cleaned so we can continue to use it in the future. The monies made here cover our referee and grounds maintenance cost.
Mandatory Conditioning?
The first week of practice is mandatory. Each tackle football player MUST complete 8 hours of conditioning prior to any contact drills. If a player misses any of the first week, in the second and in some cases third week of practice they will be placed with the other players that had missed. Until the 8 hours are completed they cannot take part in contact drills. FYI: The third week of practice we are getting ready for our first game.
Parking.
Only designated areas are to be utilized for parking. Please do NOT park on the curbs, the grass, or in areas the specifically state no parking. At the high school there is ample parking spaces. Coaches are the only ones allowed to park at the high school practice field. They are carrying all of the equipment. Players should be dropped off at an area designated by the head coach. We should not have a line of traffic on the utility road to the baseball field/ high school practice field. This is congested already with the high school players and coaches trying to leave practice. It is their field. Let us not take advantage of them and jeopardize our use of their facility.
Rodeo?
This event is used to distribute equipment to tackle players as well as hand out chicken bbq tickets, picture order forms, an other like kind documents. . Once we are done with distribution all extra equipment is placed into storage. We start with 6th grade and work backwards. The times have been posted to the calendar.
